Snowbird Season in Highlands County: The Booking Calendar Nobody Shares

Sometime in October, the license plates around Sebring start changing: New York, Ohio, Michigan, Quebec. Snowbird season in Highlands County runs roughly November through April, peaks January through March, and quietly rearranges the schedules of every mover, storage unit, and park manager in the county.

We are Anywhere Anytime Moving, based in Sebring, and we plan our fall and spring around this calendar. Here is the version we wish someone had handed us back in 2016 — when to book, how to split a seasonal move, and the rules the parks never print.

Why November and March are the choke points

November is the first wave. The first cold snap up north turns into a phone call two weeks later, and everyone wants to be in place before Thanksgiving. Trucks that were loose in September are suddenly stacked.

March is the wave in reverse, with a twist: everyone heads north between mid-March and mid-April to beat the heat, and the 12 Hours of Sebring fills the town’s hotels and stretches US-27 for a few days in the middle of the month. The month everyone assumes is calm is the single tightest stretch of our year.

The short version: book November arrivals by late September, March departures by the end of January, and any January or February move three to four weeks ahead.

Two trips or one?

There are three honest ways to run a seasonal move, and the right one depends on how you live:

  • One trip. Everything comes down together — one load, one day, one price. The right choice when you stay the full season or simply want it settled once.
  • Two trips. Essentials first — beds, a kitchen basics box, the TV, medications, two chairs — and the rest a few weeks later. It costs more in total than one consolidated load, but it matches how snowbirds actually live. Nobody needs the china cabinet in November.
  • The storage round-trip. Leave a unit here all summer with the things that never go north — the patio set, the spare bed, the beach gear — and your truck load shrinks in both directions.

The third option is the one long-term snowbirds end up choosing. Our storage unit moving service turns the season into two easy trips instead of two full households.

The 55+ parks around Sebring and Avon Park set the delivery rules

A large share of seasonal arrivals land in the 55+ parks around Sebring and Avon Park, and every park writes its own rules. Some want the office notified before a truck rolls in. Some register every guest vehicle. Some restrict delivery hours, and a few have interior lanes too tight for anything bigger than a straight truck.

Two questions to the park office save an afternoon: what are the delivery hours, and is there any lane or vehicle-length limit? Tell us which park you are in when you request the estimate, and we will plan the arrival around its rules instead of discovering them at the gate.

If you would rather not direct traffic at all, our senior moving service covers exactly this: we coordinate with the park, place the furniture where you want it, and make the beds before we leave.

The calendar nobody shares

Month What is happening Booking advice
November First arrivals; the surge begins Book by late September
December Steady, with a holiday lull mid-month Two to three weeks ahead
January Peak begins; park deliveries run daily Three to four weeks ahead
February Full peak and the best working weather Three to four weeks ahead
March Peak plus race week; departures begin Book by the end of January
April The reverse rush — departures and storage move-ins Three or more weeks ahead

Leaving in April, coming back in November

The departure checklist

  • Set the AC to a high-but-not-off setting with a humidistat — a sealed Florida house in August grows things.
  • Close hurricane shutters or panels if the home has them.
  • Forward mail and pause deliveries; leave a spare key with someone you trust.
  • Move what stays — patio furniture, spare beds, beach gear — into storage before you go.
  • Shut off water at the main and unplug what does not need power.
  • Photograph every room for your records; walk the place once with a list in hand.

The return checklist

  • Run water and flush the lines a day before your delivery.
  • Check for odors, pests, and roof stains before the truck arrives, not after.
  • Flip breakers and confirm the AC runs before the first hot week does.
  • Book the delivery before you drive down — November crew time disappears by the middle of October.

If you are still pricing out the town itself, start with what it actually costs to live here — we put the numbers in one place in our Sebring cost-of-living breakdown.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should we book movers for snowbird season?

Two to three weeks for November and December, three to four for January through April. The earlier you lock a date, the more say you have over the morning or afternoon window.

Do you deliver into 55+ parks around Sebring and Avon Park?

Regularly. Tell us the park when you book, call the office about delivery hours and lane limits, and we will plan the truck around both.

Can you store our furniture over the summer?

Yes — it is one of the most common snowbird setups we run. We load the unit in spring and deliver everything back in the fall, so the truck day stays short in both directions.

What if we split the winter between two places?

A two-trip plan handles it: essentials to the first place, the rest where the winter actually happens. We will map the dates together at the estimate.

Whether it is one trip, two, or a storage round-trip, the calendar matters more than any price list. Get a free estimate early and the season works on your side.

I was present while Anywhere Anytime Moving moved my Aunt's Grand Piano. The crew was friendly and took excellent care as they disassembled, padded, moved and loaded the piano. We visited the piano after it was reassembled in its new home at a local venue in Sebring. Excellent Service and reasonable price for a crew of three and full morning. Thank you.

The two-person crew were absolutely amazing! Couldn’t ask for a better pair of men to get the job done. Very impressive, professional and personable. Took time to ensure they were careful with the furniture they delivered. I highly recommend their service.

The movers were great! They were very efficient & professional! However, at the end of the move when I was preparing to pay, I was advised that I would be charged an additional fee to process my payment because I used a card. I was unaware of this as there had been no additional communication outside of an email reminder the day before about my scheduled move. I used a card to pay my deposit and was not charged a processing fee. Had I known about a processing fee I would have prepared another form of payment. Other than that unexpected fee, the movers were amazing! A great group of hardworking guys who made the move less stressful.

Solid job overall. Two complaints prevent a much better rating. First, they took lunch without telling me. I don't mind at all that they took lunch, but not letting me know meant I was waiting for them in an empty house for 45 minutes. If they had just told me, I could have gotten some things done. Second, they tried to take my headboard down the steps without fully disassembling it first which led to a) 40 minutes of time wasted (a little irritating when they charge by the hour) and b) they broke my hand railing and didn't repair it. I don't think I would use them again
