Moving to Sebring, FL: What It Actually Costs in 2026

Sebring sits almost exactly in the middle of the Florida peninsula, on US-27, about ninety minutes from either coast. It is the county seat of Highlands County — a town of lakes, citrus groves, and one very famous racetrack — and in 2026 it is still one of the few corners of Florida where a working budget buys a house with a driveway.

We are Anywhere Anytime Moving, a family company founded by Ray Callahan in 2016, based at 603 Avocado St right here in Sebring. Newcomers ask us the same question every week: what does life here actually cost, and what does the move itself run? Here is the honest breakdown, including the part we get paid for.

Housing looks nothing like the coast

The gap between Sebring and the metro markets is widest in housing. A modest single-family home in Highlands County lists for a fraction of what the same square footage commands in Tampa, Sarasota, or Naples, and property taxes on a comparable house generally run lower. Outside the city limits there is no separate city utility bill stacked on top of the county one.

Rental inventory is the trade-off. Sebring is a market of single-family homes, manufactured homes on leased land, and small apartment buildings — not towers of one-bedroom units. If you are renting first and buying later, start looking six to eight weeks out, because anything decent in January disappears fast once the snowbirds land.

Homes on or near Lake Jackson and Lake Sebring carry a lake premium, but nothing like coastal waterfront pricing. The same house two miles inland drops the number noticeably.

Insurance and electric bills — where Florida bites

The two line items that surprise new Floridians are insurance and power. Homeowners insurance is expensive everywhere in the state, and carriers look hard at roof age: a roof past twenty years old will complicate a quote around here the same as anywhere. Budget for the possibility of roof work if the inspection flags it — that single line item reshapes more Highlands County budgets than any other.

Electricity is the summer story. When afternoons hold at 95°F deep into September, a central AC in an older block house works for a living. A three-bedroom home typically runs $180–$260 a month at peak summer and roughly half that in January. Your insulation and your unit’s age move those numbers in either direction.

What the move itself costs in Highlands County

Local moves are priced by the hour: a crew and the truck, from the moment we roll up until the last box is placed, plus drive time between homes. A two-mover crew covers most apartment and small-house jobs; a three-mover crew is the right call for a three-bedroom home, heavy furniture, or a house with stairs and a long driveway.

Line item Typical range in 2026
Two movers + truck, hourly $110–$160
Three movers + truck, hourly $150–$220
Two-bedroom move inside Highlands County $600–$1,100
Three-bedroom move inside Highlands County $900–$1,600
Packing materials, three-bedroom home $150–$300
10×10 storage unit in Sebring $90–$150 per month

Every number above is a range typical for this market in 2026 — your written estimate is the number that matters. What moves the total more than anything else: stairs, the walk from the truck to the door, how packed the boxes are, and whether the garage is a museum of unfinished projects. The full picture of how hourly pricing works is on our local moving page.

Coming down from up north — what changes

If you are arriving from out of state, the math changes shape. Long-distance moves are priced on volume and mileage rather than hourly time, and your household rides a shared truck with a delivery window instead of a guaranteed hour. Build in a week or two of flexibility and keep the essentials — beds, chargers, documents, the coffee maker — with you, not on the truck.

Two Florida-specific notes. First, book summer arrivals for an early morning start: by 2 p.m. it is 95°F, and nobody should be carrying a dresser up stairs in that. Second, if you land between November and April, you are competing with snowbird season for trucks and storage units — book earlier than feels necessary.

The calendar: when a Sebring move is cheaper

January through March is the peak: snowbird season, race week for the 12 Hours of Sebring, and the busiest stretch of the year for every mover and storage facility in the county. The soft windows are May, once the season has emptied out, and September into October, before the holidays. Summer costs less in competition and more in sweat — an early start is non-negotiable.

Once the boxes are empty, May and October are also the months to be outdoors here. Highlands Hammock State Park, twenty minutes west of town, earns the trip for reasons that have nothing to do with trucks.

Frequently asked questions

What do movers charge per hour in Sebring in 2026?

A two-mover crew with a truck typically runs $110–$160 per hour and a three-mover crew $150–$220 — ranges typical for this market in 2026. Your written estimate is the number that matters, and it will reflect stairs, driveway distance, and how packed you are.

Is Sebring cheaper to live in than Florida’s coasts?

Housing, yes — by a wide margin. Insurance and summer electric bills run high here the same as anywhere in Florida. The overall picture still favors Highlands County for most buyers leaving a metro market.

How far ahead should I book a Sebring moving company?

Two to three weeks covers most of the year. During snowbird peak, January through March, book three to four weeks ahead. If your date is already close, call anyway — we run last-minute jobs when the schedule allows.

Does the hourly rate include drive time?

Local jobs are billed as a crew-and-truck block that includes reasonable drive time between homes. The written estimate shows exactly how the hours count before you sign anything.

Market ranges are for planning; your address is for deciding. Request a free estimate and we will put your move on paper — dates, crew, and the full price — before anything is booked.

I was present while Anywhere Anytime Moving moved my Aunt's Grand Piano. The crew was friendly and took excellent care as they disassembled, padded, moved and loaded the piano. We visited the piano after it was reassembled in its new home at a local venue in Sebring. Excellent Service and reasonable price for a crew of three and full morning. Thank you.

The two-person crew were absolutely amazing! Couldn’t ask for a better pair of men to get the job done. Very impressive, professional and personable. Took time to ensure they were careful with the furniture they delivered. I highly recommend their service.

The movers were great! They were very efficient & professional! However, at the end of the move when I was preparing to pay, I was advised that I would be charged an additional fee to process my payment because I used a card. I was unaware of this as there had been no additional communication outside of an email reminder the day before about my scheduled move. I used a card to pay my deposit and was not charged a processing fee. Had I known about a processing fee I would have prepared another form of payment. Other than that unexpected fee, the movers were amazing! A great group of hardworking guys who made the move less stressful.

Solid job overall. Two complaints prevent a much better rating. First, they took lunch without telling me. I don't mind at all that they took lunch, but not letting me know meant I was waiting for them in an empty house for 45 minutes. If they had just told me, I could have gotten some things done. Second, they tried to take my headboard down the steps without fully disassembling it first which led to a) 40 minutes of time wasted (a little irritating when they charge by the hour) and b) they broke my hand railing and didn't repair it. I don't think I would use them again
